On the 1st of December MedCities undertook a technical mission to the city of Adagir (Morocco) in order to discuss possibilities of collaboration and technical assistance related to the implementation of Bus Rapid Transit

The delegation of the technical mission included representatives of the Barcelona Regional Agency for Local Development (BR) accompanied by a member of MedCities, and was received by the Vice-President of the city of Agadir.

A meeting was held with both political and technical representatives of the municipality in order to establish the objectives and terms of collaboration among the two institutions, the Barcelona Metropolitan Agency (AMB) as General Secretariat of MedCities and the Urban Community of Agadir. As a result of this mission, AMB and BR will offer technical assistance to Agadir for establishing the terms of reference that will guide the future project management of the 1st BRT line in Agadir. The two institutions have shown their interest in accompanying the city throughout the implementation of this project and in putting in place the Urban Mobility Plan (2016-2020) that Agadir is about to launch.

Such kind of technical exchanges and bilateral cooperation forms part of the support that MedCities network offers to its cities related to sustainable urban development initiatives. The BRT of Agadir will be the first to be launched in Morocco and has already the support of all adjacent communities of Greater Agadir that will benefit from this project and participate in its implementing structures.
