Last March 23rd, the UNDP ART Programme, as part of its continuous work with El Alto Municipality, transferred equipment to neighborhood councils that are implementing the El Alto Metro Parada Juvenil initiative with the purpose of improving the quality of activities offered, for free, to the El Alto youth.
Metro Parada Juvenil is an initiative that seeks to use public spaces, managed by neighborhood councils, in favor of the young population of a certain district. Metro Parada Juvenil aims to offer various services and activities in order to spend their free time in a positive manner. This initiative promotes a responsible citizen practice, in addition to reducing juvenile delinquency; at the moment, it is working with 6 different neighborhoods of El Alto municipality.
The beneficiaries are young people from 13 to 25 years old, who can enjoy a wide range of activities at no cost in exchange of one hour of volunteer service per month; the activities include classes (english, math...), cultural workshops (modern dance, break dance, theatre, artistic make up, graffiti...) and sport clubs (athletics and soccer). Moreover, they have access to libraries and study rooms offered by Metro Parada Juvenil.
Furthermore, there is the possibility of becoming a member with benefits, such as participating in cooking courses, reading and computer workshops, using laundry services, attending talks and activities regarding citizen safety, nutrition and the environment.
This initiative is promoted by various cooperation partners that, together with neighborhood councils, enable its development and its improvement.
