There is a growing consensus on the need to involve sub-national governments and actors in the discussion on global development goals and priorities, along with national institutions and stakeholders.
As local and regional governments are physically closer to their citizens, their perspective is of critical relevance.
Moreover, such interactions further encourage greater alignment, coherence and coordination among the different levels. Thus, as the global debate on the post-2015 agenda gains momentum, there is a concrete need to localize it and to engage sub-national actors and their networks, to ensure that their perspectives and priorities are taken into consideration.
Against such backdrop there will be a series of consultations throughout the world with the active involvement of Local and Regional Governments, to localize the post-2015 agenda in 2014, as it is at the local level that goals and targets will ultimately be achieved and results attained.
