The celebration of the 3rd World Forum on Local Economic Development (LED) will take place on 13th-16th October 2015 in Turin (Italy).
The event, is organized by the Municipality and Metropolitan City of Turin, the global network of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and its Committee on Local Economic Development, through the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI), the Organization of United Regions (ORU FOGAR), the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The Forum is expected to gather national and local authorities, academia, enterprises, institutions, private sector and international organizations coming from different continents that promote and support local development. Many Senior Representatives have already confirmed their participation and this includes the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Paolo Gentiloni, together with other Ministers and tens of Mayors and Presidents of Region.
The 3rd World Forum of LED is part of a process started in 2011 with the 1st Forum held in Seville, Spain, and followed by the 2nd edition celebrated in 2013 in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil (click here to read the reports of the first and second World Forum of LED). The event is proposed as a platform to critically review experiences and assumptions that have dominated LED discourse and practices over the past two decades, and advance a critical reflection. Last week, in occasion of the United Nations Summit, the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been adopted defining the development framework of the next 15 years. The 3rd World Forum of LED immediately follows this Summit, providing a timely opportunity to explore LED as a means for implementing the new development agenda at the local level.
