The "Mediterranean CooBEEration" journey for the promotion of beekeeping as a Global Common Good goes on; on the 25th and the 26th May 2016 in Ramallah at the headquarters of the Red Crescent Society will take place the National Beekeeping Forum of Palestine, titled "Good practices for beekeeping and food security”.
Starting from a vision of beekeeping as an opportunity for local development, biodiversity protection and food security promotion, during the Forum there will be a discussion on the main constraints, challenges and opportunities of the palestinian beekeeping such as honey quality and competitiveness and the best strategies to be adopted to ensure bee health and honey safety.
On the second day of the event the representatives of the cooperatives of West Bank will be called to discuss and dialogue with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture for the definition of a national strategy for the development of the beekeeping sector and the constitution of a National Federation of the palestinian beekeepers.
The event, organized by FELCOS Umbria (Fund of Local Authorities for Decentralized Cooperation and Human Sustainable Development) and APIMED (Federation of Mediterranean Beekeepers) , with the support of the local organization the Ramallah Beekeepers Cooperative and with the patronage of Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture, will also represent the opportunity to revamp the “Bee-friendly Municipality” initiative, and the CooBEEration Campaign in general, within which the initiative forms part.
“Mediterranean CooBEEration: a network for beekeeping, food security and biodiversity" is a project funded by the European Union and promoted by FELCOS Umbria , APIMED , UNDP (United Nations Development Program), the Department of Agro-environmental Sciences and Technologies of University of Bologna (DIPSA), the Department of Agricultural, Forest and Food Science of University of Turin (DISAFA) and the National Agronomic Institute of Tunisia (INAT).
